“SENIORS
SERVING SENIORS” |
|
Founded in 1957, the Senior Citizens Council of
Ottawa is a non-profit volunteer association of over 60 senior citizens
organizations and residential groups. The Council is dedicated to: providing
seniors with the means to enhance their well-being and remain
self-sufficient; helping seniors become involved and integrated in the
community; and ensuring senior participation in planning and improving the
services that affect them. The Council is “seniors serving seniors”. The Senior Citizens Council also acts as a link
between clubs, seniors living alone, governments and services. It provides
information, assistance and services to seniors on a wide variety of seniors
issues. The Council also works to provide seniors with a strong common voice,
education and awareness of issues pertaining to seniors and highlight their
capabilities and accomplishments. The Council provides its services through a
volunteer board of directors composed of seniors from member organizations, a
full time Executive Director and two staff members, and over 150 regular
senior volunteers who donate over 10,000 hours of their time each year. The Senior Citizens Council is partially funded by
the United Way of Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, and the Ontario Ministry of
Health and Long Term Care. |
